The Story

A history of celebrating craftsmanship

For over 20 years the PICS Golden Trowel Awards has been celebrating the creativity and craftsmanship demonstrated by professionals working in decorative concrete. Over this time the awards have grown into one of the most prestigious recognitions in the industry.

What started as a way of recognising the outstanding work coming out of PICS-trained contractors has become a fixture of the decorative concrete calendar. Each year contractors submit their proudest projects, and each year the standard climbs.

Recent entries have arrived from around the globe, from intricate domestic imprinted concrete designs to large-scale commercial installations. Every entry reflects the quality, creativity and professionalism that continues to raise the bar for our industry year over year.

For winners, the recognition matters. A Golden Trowel is something contractors put front and centre, and acts as proof of the quality their teams bring to every project.

  1. The Idea

Recognising the work behind the finish

PICS set out to spotlight the contractors whose craftsmanship rarely gets seen beyond the driveway gate.

  2. Growth

    Two categories, one standard

Domestic and commercial projects were split into separate categories so every entry is judged fairly against comparable work.

  3. 2025

    A significant milestone

2025 marked 20 years of the Golden Trowel. Entries arrived from across the UK and overseas, with an exceptional standard of work across both categories.

  4. 2026

    Your turn

Entries are open now, with judging taking place at PICS head office in Hermitage and the winners revealed later this year.

Two Categories

Where does your project fit?

Every entry is judged within one of two categories, so a domestic driveway is never measured against a skatepark.

How It Works

Four steps to entering

Entering takes a few minutes. Upload your best images, tell us about the job, and hit submit.

  1. 01

    Photograph your work

Pick your strongest images. Image quality is judged, because poor photos stop the judges seeing what you actually did.

  2. 02

    Fill out the form

Business name, job location and category are all we need. Pattern, colour surface hardener and release agent colours used help the judges if you know them.

  3. 03

    Hit submit

Enter up to five projects with up to three images each. You will get an on-screen confirmation once it is in.

  4. 04

    Judging

Our judges come together at PICS UK head offices in Hermitage, featuring PICS staff and independent representatives from across the industry. Judging takes place in October, with the winners revealed later in the year.

How entries are judged

Photos are judged independently on complexity, craftsmanship, the skill the job demanded and how well it was executed.

Photo quality is also judged, low-quality images mean the judges cannot accurately assess the project. Clear, well-lit photos that show the whole job and the detail give your entry the best chance.
