Autumn Leaves Are Falling
The weather has been great this summer, and I hope you have all enjoyed the sunshine and made the most of it with your PIC businesses. We at PICS have had a great year and hope you guys have too.
Unfortunately, summer has now come to an end, and autumn has arrived. The leaves are turning brown, and they are just about to or have just begun to drop. Dr Concrete knows what a pain it can be when leaves fall on freshly laid grey concrete and/or when you have just coloured it ready to start printing. What annoys Dr Concrete the most is if I have to push past a bush to get to an area of concrete to work on, and suddenly fifty small leaves ping off and onto the concrete!!! You all know what I mean.
So, here’s a small, easy, but effective top tip….. Use your high-pressure waterjet!
On the preparation day (preferably not the concrete laying day), thoroughly waterjet all nearby trees/shrubs / bushes which are likely to be the offending culprits. This will NOT remove all the leaves from the plant, but it WILL remove the leaves that are about to drop in the near future. Therefore, there will be significantly less potential for leaves to fall onto your work, and you will have a less stressful day.
Yes – the odd leaf will still fall; however, the number of leaves will be greatly reduced. And, sure, you can’t water jet the top of a fifty-foot oak tree, but anything that you can give a good jet wash, do it.
As mentioned earlier, preferably don’t wash on the concrete laying day, because if you do, and the bushes don’t dry by the time the concrete arrives, you’ll get water onto the concrete from the bushes and that’ll create a different hassle.
Other things that can be done regarding autumn leaves:
- Cover bushes/hedges with polythene/tarpaulin
- Tie back bushes with rope
- Offer a free pruning service!
