Project Description:

Galamast have installed a PICSPAVE drive-thru as part of their construction of a new McDonalds store at the Tesco store site in Winnall in Winchester. PICSPAVE was chosen for its durability and high wear values, particularly at the location in the drive-thru where the vehicle stop-start stresses and regular oil leaks require a durable and easily maintained paving option. This use of PICSPAVE as the drive-thru approach has been undertaken by McDonalds over the last 30 years, to generate a higher level of turnover within this type of restaurant business model. The specification of PICSPAVE helps to ensure maximum use over at least twenty years with 24/7 trading hours. PICSPAVE offers minimal downtime for maintenance, due to the durability and long term performance, and provides simple cleaning and resealing options for the McDonalds.

Project Requirements:

To install 661m² of PICSPAVE incorporating a London Cobble imprint design and using Raven Grey Colourmix and Charcoal Colour Surface Hardener at a surface density of 5kg/m² for
maximum wear characteristics, and surface cured and sealed with PICS High Solid Sealer for maximum oil resistance.

Products Used:

HATCRETE Raven Grey Colourmix integral colour, premixed by Heidelberg into the PICSPAVE concrete mix design, and PICS Charcoal Colour Surface Hardener applied to the surface of the plastic curing concrete to increase the water/cement ratio and surface density for long term abrasion resistance and wear qualities. PICS High Solid acrylic sealer was applied to the curing surface to improve the paving performance and aesthetic qualities.

Participants:

  • Client – McDonalds Restaurants
  • Main Contractor – Galamast
  • PICSPAVE Installer – DCS – Decorative Concrete Specialists
