Pattern Imprinted Concrete (PIC) should require virtually no maintenance. The paving is a high quality poured concrete slab and will give the user many years of trouble free service.

The reason that PIC is becoming so popular, is that it offers all the practical benefits associated with a well laid, high quality, plain, grey concrete slab but it looks much nicer and offers all the superior aesthetic qualities of traditional paving.

Without question, the structural and practical integrity will remain. However, dependent on use, from time to time the surface will benefit from a little periodic maintenance to ensure that it retains its good looks for many years to come.

This maintenance falls into two areas.

  • The area may require washing with a water jet or similar, as necessary, to remove dirt or foreign material deposited on the surface. This is no different to any area of hardstanding.
  • The area may benefit from a periodic re-seal every three to five years. To expand further, the surface of PIC is sealed with a penetrating acrylic sealer. The acrylic soaks into the pores of the concrete, thus making it resistant to dirt, staining, moss and algae growth and dusting. Once the acrylic sealer has soaked into the paving, the extra resin forms an acrylic layer on the surface. This thin layer, further enhances the natural colour and antiquing of the surface and further increases its resistance to dirt accumulation, staining and wear.

THIS ACRYLIC FILM ON THE SURFACE MAY ALSO BE DESCRIBED AS A SACRAFICIAL LAYER. IF THIS SACRAFICIAL LAYER IS MAINTAINED, IT IS THE ONLY PART OF THE PIC SYSTEM THAT CAN EVER WEAR AND THEREFORE THE PAVING WILL REMAIN LOOKING VIRTUALLY THE SAME OVER THE ENSUING YEARS.

By following these simple cleaning and maintenance practices, you can ensure your imprinted concrete continues to be a standout feature of your property for years to come. If you have any questions or concerns specific to your paving, please contact one of the technical team at PICS.
